Families in our Community
"We love our school community", Doris & Rebecca Patini
In 1962, the Bugeja family moved into the neighbourhood starting at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School the next day. Back then it was one big room! A classroom during the week and the desks moved for Mass on Sunday.
Sixty-three years later, it is third generation Ollie in Reception and Paige in Year 4 who are the students. Their Nanna Doris volunteered for ten years before joining the staff and incredibly, for the last twenty-five years has been working in school admin and class support.
Like mother like daughter, Rebecca volunteered as Playgroup coordinator for ten years and this year is employed to manage Playgroup each Friday.
A lifelong family volunteering commitment to our school community began with Ollie and Paige’s great-grandparents. Jo Bugeja still cooks vegetable soup with other parishioners and at aged 88 was teaching knitting in her great-granddaughter’s class.
The Catholic Education Week theme this year is ‘Shine with Open Hearts’. We acknowledge the Bugeja and Patini families for being shining examples of service in our ‘Hearts’ community.
